Important Event #3

  The third important event I found in chapter 6 in 'The Messenger' was when a new group of people from Kira's village came to Village (Matty's village) and people like Mentor weren't happy about the new comers. They started talking about a meeting that would decide whether or not to close Village away from the other village. This is also where Matty first notices the change in Mentor. He says,"Still, Matty was uneasy. Something else was different today about Mentor. He couldn't name the difference, not really. Was it that Mentor seemed slightly taller?" (Lowry, page 51) This shows how Matty can't quite place the difference in Mentor, but there is definitely something there. I find this quite interesting on how a respectful and kind community is starting to turn against letting people stay in Village. Even Leader notices it. He says, "Even those of you who want to close Village to new ones--even you value the peace and kindness we have always embraced here. Mentor? You seem to be leading this. What do you say?" (Lowry, page 50) This is another one of the important events that stood out to me in this story.
