Flashbacks

  In 'The Messenger', there are many flashbacks that the characters have in the story. I will try and include as many as I can. Chapter 1 page 9 is where Matty remembers how he said to Seer that Forest likes him, and Seer had said it might need him. When Matty is remembering this, he is on the edge of Forest. He has no idea that this is only the beginning...Chapter 2 page 14 is where Matty remembers when Gatherer was killed by Forest. He remembers how gruesome his death was. This is an important flashback because it introduces us to the dangers that lie in Forest. Chapter 4 page 33 is not a flashback, but a memory of when Matty was told how his mother is dead, which is an important thing to include, since we do not know that much about Matty yet. In chapter 5 starting at page 41, Matty has a flashback to when he healed the frog. This is important because it introduces Matty's powers. All of these flashbacks and memories are important because they help us learn more about Matty and other characters in the story.
