Important Event #5
Another important event in chapter 16 of 'The Messenger' is when Kira gets poked really hard in the foot by Forest. This means that she was given a Warning. Kira cannot go through Forest again without getting harmed, or possibly killed. In the text Kira says,"'No. My shoes are fine. It's strange, though. While we were walking, I kept having to stop to pull twigs out of my shoes. You probably noticed.' She laughed. 'It was as if the underbrush was actually reaching in to poke at me.'" ..."' It poked me hard, too.'" ... "Matty didn't let her see how uneasy this made him feel." (Lowry, page 137) This shows how scared Matty is now of Forest and how significant this event is and it stood out to me on what Forest does to give Warnings to people.
